Mokhtar signed with Oregon State out of high school, but transferred and played last season at Orange Coast College. At OCC, he earned enough credits which allowed him to transfer to USC this year without having to sit out or lose any eligibility. He will have three years remaining to play. Who 'da snapper?
#84 is listed as Joe Gibson, a WR WO. I doubt the heck out of that. Has Stephenson changed his # from 85 to 84?

Who is #10 on the kick-off and the punt return teams?
Shoemate or Jones?

Saw a #0 on one of the special teams vs. the Suckeyes. Who might that be?

Kick-off return team had a #43. Is that a new frosh WO? Also on the KO return team was a #46. Cumming or Calcagnie? Both are WOs.

I am not a big fan of playing for less than first place either, so I do understand "the season is over" comment. CFB is the only sport, that I know of, that does not have a true championship competition.

However, USC can still win a cfb poll championship by:

1) Winning the rest of their games
2) Ohio State winning the rest of their games
3) A Texas Loss
4) A Boise State Loss
5) Another Virginia Tech Loss

The SEC winner will be the opponent, of course.

Here are some more players who recorded starts for USC last year:

TE - Rhett Ellison - Started on 12/26/09 vs Boston College
TE - Blake Ayles - Started on 10/31/09 vs Oregon
OT - Matt Kalil - Started on 12/26/09 vs Boston College
RB - Allen Bradford - Started on 12/26/09 vs Boston College
LB - Jordan Campbell - Started on 9/26/09 vs Washington State

Martin Coleman tidbit
------------
Coleman said that he has been cleared to take part in spring ball and he says he is the healthiest he has been in his three years at USC. Martin said the coaches have him at the guard spot for now and he can't wait to get on the field to finally show what he can do. For the record, Coleman says he has three years of eligibility remaining since he took a medical redshirt year and a regular redshirt year.

To:

03/10/10 @ 6:22pm
The new coaching staff hasn't seen their players practice or play in person, but they can tell enough from the game film.

And because of that, two Trojans are making position switches heading into Spring Practice 2010.

Senior Jordan Cameron is moving from wideout to tight end, while redshirt freshman Simione Vehikite has been switched from fullback to linebacker. The new positions shouldn't be all that new for either player though, as Cameron has played some tight end during his two previous seasons at USC, while Vehikite was a standout linebacker along with fullback in high school.
From: Garry's Random Thoughts (3/17)
To:

03/17/10 @ 8:57pm
With two weeks to go before the start of spring ball practices here are some thoughts on the team:

* In a recent article, Allen Bradford said he is looking to form a 1-2 punch at tailback with C.J. Gable. He later added that he told the offensive linemen that they need to "pancake the opponent" and that Bradford would supply the "butter and syrup". That would make for a great story of redemption for this year's team. Allen "Butter" Bradford and C.J. "Syrup" Gable being led by the Pancake Crew on the offensive line. Bradford and Gable, both have spent extended periods of unexplained activity on the bench during their USC careers yet now it appears that they are primed to play major roles. It will be exciting to see how that plays out.

* Here is our projected look at how the recruiting class numbers will shake out for the Class of 2011:

QB - 1 (right now Max Wittek would have to be considered the favorite based upon the early offer)

RB - 2 TB, 1 FB (DeAnthony Thomas is the odds-on favorite to grab one of those tailback spots)

WR - 3 (We don't necessarily need three, we could probably get by with two, but this is such a good year at the spot that it makes sense to grab the talent when it is there)

TE - 1 (after taking three TE's last year, this is not a major position of need)

OL - 4 (we need numbers in this class at the o-line spot and it seems to be a pretty good year for depth of talent at both guard and tackle)

DL - 4 (along with wide receiver, the d-line class is the most loaded position in the area. We already have one commit from a DT in Woods and that is a great start)

LB - 3 (We need an influx of young talent here. Tre Madden from Mission Viejo reminds me of a young Keith Rivers with his athleticism)

DB - 2 CB, 2 S (We could probably get by with only one safety but I think we will have plenty of available scholarships this year so might as well take two)

K/P - 1 (We need at least one leg in this class. i saw two very good junior kickers last year; Jake Van Ginkel from Upland and Matt Hile from Parker in San Diego)

* The wide receiver recruiting could get extremely tight since this is such a good year in the area. Also, the Trojans also have an early commit for 2012 in Jordan Payton so that could play into the decisions of receivers in this class. Right now we have local offers out to George Farmer and Devon Blackmon with an offer and a lot of mutual interest from Deanthony Arnett from Michigan. On the outide looking in right now are big time guys such as Victor Blackwell and Antoine Arnold. I personally like Blackwell, I just think he is a playmaker of the highest order. Common thought these days has Farmer ending up at USC so that likely means only two more spots are open. If I had to bet right now I would say that Arnett grabs one of them. That means one more and I would love to see that go to Blackwell. Not only is he a talent but he is also good friends with Max Wittek and DeAnthony Thomas. If that trio comes together as part of the Class of 2011 I would be a very happy man.

* One proposed position switch that we will be keeping our eye on is the possibility of Devon Kennard getting a look at middle linebacker. We loved the move of Kennard to strongside backer last year. Frankly, I think Devon would do well no matter where you put him. I guess what I find interesting about the possible switch is that we already have Chris Galippo entrenched at middle linebacker. If Kennard were to move and get that job, it would likely mean Mike Morgan would be in place as the starter at SLB. So, would the coaches be considering a combo of Kennard/Morgan as being preferred to Galippo/Kennard? I don't know and it's way too early to start guessing what will happen because we really don't know the coaches mindset or plan yet. All I know is the fact that they are even considering such a look tells me that no player is completely set at a particular spot with this new staff.

* Other position changes that have been noted so far in winter workouts: James Boyd to DE, Byron Moore to S, Marshall Jones to S, Simione Vehikite to LB, Jordan Cameron to TE, Kevin Greene to DL (he had switched back and forth last year between LB and DL).

* Seantrel Henderson, the mammoth OL recruit who announced on signing day that he would be attending USC, has yet to sign his LOI but his father stated earlier this week that the signing would take place on Thursday. Those plans seem to have changed though as the local Minneapolis paper is now reporting that a scheduling problem at his high school will force the signing to be moved to an unspecified date next week. Henderson has stated the reason for his initial delay in signing is that he wanted to wait and see any possible reactions to the ongoing NCAA investigation with USC. There have been no updates reported and news on the investigation is almost non-existent. As an aside, Henderson found out late last week that he has achieved a qualifying test score on his ACT exam so he is now academically eligible for the fall.

* Brian Baucham, who is expected to be in contention for one of the starting cornerback spots, was spotted at a winter conditioning session with a boot on his foot. Baucham has been unavailable for action since a motorcycle accident midway through last season, an accident that happened right at the point where he was really starting to make people take notice of his play.

* One former college coach who now does training of players to get them ready for the combine and Pro Days was commenting recently on incoming Trojan freshman Robert Woods. He said "i watched that guy play twice this year and I think he is as prepared to come in and contribute immediately as any high school receiver I have ever seen."
